Yes, it was party time in the streets of L.A. today as my beloved Los Angeles Lakers celebrated winning the World Championship! A great day for all! Now yours truly (SAXOMAN) did not attend as I was a responsible guy and went to work instead. Oh well...Anyway, here's a few photos of today's parade as well as the always entertaining Laker Ron Artest with his new rap single Champion. We couldn't have won the championship without you Ron!
AT LAST! Yes, once again my beloved L.A. Lakers have won the NBA Championship! It was a hard fought seven game series against the always hated Boston Celtics and my Lakers have once again prevailed! Now I must say that Game 7 was a definite nail-biter and I was close to cardiac arrest for the entire game. Now? My life is complete and I can die in peace. HAHA! Here are a few photos of the celebration. ENJOY!
Now I know I have knocked soccer pretty bad recently but I must admit that there is one thing that I really get a kick out of and that is this thing called the Vuvuzela! Huh? If you've happened to tune into a game while flipping through the channels then you've probably heard what sounds like a non-stop swarm of bees. Yep, this is the Vuvuzela and this sound continues for the entire game! I kid you not. Now there is even talk about banning these things for a variety of reasons. I mean without the Vuvuzela and the Spanish broadcaster that yells Gooooooaaaaaalllllllll what other reason would there be to watch soccer? HAHA!
Yes, it is definitely nervous time in Lakerville. My beloved Purple and Gold are on the brink of elimination. Down 3 games to 2 in the NBA Finals the Lakers need to win the next two or their season is over. I know I have not blogged much about my beloved Lakers this year but as always I have watched every game and been a true fan. A loss in the NBA Finals would be devastating for me and force me to take a swan dive off of Suicide Bridge in Pasadena! (see photo) What? But it's only a game SAXOMAN. Yes, this is true but for a man that bleeds Purple and Gold a loss would be too much for me to take. Will they win and force a game 7 and then win it all? I believe, oh yes, I still believe! Stay tuned Laker fans!
This weeks long overdue Salsa CD Pick of the Week is by Maraca and is titled The Best ofMaraca Bailables. Now although I normally steer clear of "Best Of" packages since they typically overlook great songs, this one is a definite winner! Released in 2003 this also contains unreleased tracks and a bonus dvd as well! What? Yep, another must have and SAXOMAN recommended. Not hip to Maraca? Well get hip and check this out! Here they are with their dance smash it, Descarga Total which is also on this bonus dvd! YOWWW!!!
Yes it's that time again. World Cup Soccer! Huh? OK, now I have to admit that I don't really get soccer and I think many Americans feel the same way as me (at least I think they do). Anyway, the World Cup is held every four years and pits country against country. Now not only do I find this sport slow, long and very low (or no) scoring but I just don't get all the rioting and other things that go on with this sport. Things like tossing bottles of urine at players and opposing fans, throwing batteries, tossing bags of blood and feces at opposing players, etc...etc....I'm sorry but it's just a game isn't it? Jeez.... Anyway, just my two cents on this sport that is enjoyed by millions. I think this video pretty much shows my feelings. HAHA!
This weeks long overdue Reggae CD Pick of the Week is a gem from Barrington Levy titled This Is Crucial Reggae. Now I must admit that I really like Barrington Levy's singing style but for some reason have only two of his cd's to date. I'll have to do something about that and pick up some more of his cd's soon (maybe this weekend) HAHA! Anyway, another Reggae cd you're sure to like. Not hip to Barrington Levy? Well here's a video selection from this cd titled Here I come for your viewing pleasure.Enjoy!
My mission is the never ending quest to hip the un-hip in the world of jazz, soul, funk, latin and reggae music. I am also on a quest to hip the masses to the world of Asian cinema.
