OLD SLANG - I'M STILL HEARING IT

Way back on 5-18-2009 I blogged about people that use old slang. Well I can tell you that it still hasn't stopped! Yep, almost two years later and I still hear people using these outdated expressions. I wonder if they realize how foolish they sound? Here a just a few examples: Recently I heard a guy on the radio say "bummer", my boss said "far out" and I still hear people saying "that's the bomb". Now I even have to admit that a family member still says the word "bitchin". What? Yep, this just goes to show you that hipness is definitely not hereditary. HAHA! Me? So that I don't sound like a fool the only slang I use is the timeless classic "Daddio". HAHA!

REALITY TV - THERE'S NO AVOIDING IT

It seems like every year there are more and more reality shows that come out. Because there is really no avoiding these shows (if you watch tv) I guess you find the ones that interest you the most and watch those. Now there are some very popular shows that have been on for several seasons and I have never watched them. Shows like "Survivor" and "American Idol" are two that I've never seen. They just don't seem to interest me. Now I have to admit that there are many of these shows that I have watched so let me share some of these with my many (2? 3?) readers and please, no laughing. OK, I've watched The Celebrity Apprentice, Hoarders, Storage Wars, Operation Repo, Miami Ink, Man vs Food, Inside West Coast Customs, Basketball Wives (What?), America's Got Talent, The T.O. Show, and Celebrity Rehab to name a few. Maybe because I recently had unlimited free time (unemployment) that I started to watch some of these shows. Anyway, there you go. SAXOMAN comes clean on his guilty pleasures. HAHA!

TURKEY BURGER? OH YEAH

Now I can honestly say that this new Carl's Jr commercial for a turkey burger really wants me want to try this burger. Call it clever advertising or what but with the wife on a "eat healthy kick" and this burger clocking in at under 500 calories, I'm in! HAHA! Oh, did I fail to mention that I really enjoy the commercial too? HAHA!

JAZZ CD PICK OF THE WEEK - VERY SAXY

Can you ever have too many tenor saxophones?
I think not! This weeks Jazz CD Pick of the Week is titled "Very Saxy" and is jazz lovers delight in that you have four tenor players going head to head in all star jam session. With tenor greats Coleman Hawkins, Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, Buddy Tate and Arnett Cobb this is a definite winner! Oh did I fail to mention Shirley Scott on the organ as well. WOW! Anyway, I had picked this up on my last trip to Amoeba and it kind of got lost in the shuffle with everything else that I had bought. I went back and gave it a closer listen and this is too hip! Anyway, check out a track from this 1959 classic and hip up!

DVD PICK OF THE WEEK - BUSHIDO

It has been a pretty slow period lately for Hong Kong and Chinese cinema. The recent films that I've seen have been some pretty dopey romantic comedies that aren't deserving of my pick of the week. I even saw one where action super star Donnie Yen was playing a make-up artist in one of these movies! What? Anyway, because of this I've been exploring more older Japanese cinema lately and the weeks pick spans several generations and deals with the Samurai code. So with that being said, this weeks long overdue DVD Pick of the Week is a 1963 Japanese film classic titled "Bushido - The Cruel Code of the Samurai". Ruthless Japanese Lords that demand sexual services from your wives, daughters and even you! What? Anyway, a very good film that I really enjoyed and deserving of my Pick of the Week. Check it out!

CUCUMBER MELON - HUH?

Now I don't know if I am just more observant than most people or if it's that I tend to be amused by the slightest things. OK, let me explain what I'm referring to. The other day I was at work sitting in one of the stalls in the bathroom. I was looking around to see if there was any new graffiti or if anyone had stashed a newspaper for me to read. As I looked around I noticed a can of something called "Cucumber Melon". Hmmm....what an odd combination I thought. Now I thought that these things were commonly referred to as air freshener but I guess this has now changed. This was labeled as an "odor neutralizer". What? HAHA! Yep I kid you not! So like I said.......I'm easily amused.

TWO COKES PLEASE - HUH?

Back when I was about 19 years old I was thinking that I was (and still am) a pretty hip guy. Because none of my friends could understand this "jazz music" that I was listening to I would borrow my Mom's, Dad's, or brother's car so that I could take a trip to the jazz clubs to hear some top name talent. I got a chance to see Art Blakey, Joe Henderson, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Freddie Hubbard, John Klemmer, Sonny Rollins, Warne Marsh, and many others. Now because of my age I would still have to abide by the clubs two drink minimum (per set) policy. So......gimme two cokes please! HAHA! Now occasionally I would stay for both sets and have to order four cokes which was a lot of carbonation for my little belly but hey, that was cool as long as I got to hear more music!

DODGER STADIUM AND ALL YOU CAN EAT - OH YEAH

It's been a while since I've been to a Dodger game but one of the things that recently caught my eye was the introduction of the All-You-Can-Eat Pavilion at Dodger Stadium. What? Yep, now this is something that SAXOMAN definitely has to check out. Now basically you pay from $32 to $35 for these tickets and then you get to eat until you burst! HAHA! Now this is my kind of deal! I have no doubt I could eat my money's worth of food by the second inning! I would probably eat so much that I would either fall asleep in my seat or have to go to the first aid station to lie down. HAHA! Oh yeah! I am ready to go!

REGGAE CD PICK OF THE WEEK - LUCIANO

This weeks long overdue Reggae CD Pick of the Week is Luciano with the cd titled "Serious Times". Now I must say that Luciano is another one of those reggae singers that I really like to listen to. I currently own eight of Luciano's cd's and they are all winners. When I went to the Bob Marley reggae festival a few years back there was Luciano hangin' out in the food court area talking to fans. Now instead of going over and introducing myself and telling him how much I enjoy his music, I froze like a popsicle! What! Yep, too scared too utter a word. HAHA! Anyway, for those of you that claim to like reggae but only have Bob Marley's "Legend" cd in your collection (you know who you are) then check this one out! The link will let you preview all of the tracks on this cd or you can enjoy a video of Luciano himself (below). Enjoy! http://www.amazon.com/Serious-Times-Luciano/dp/B000228EDQ/ref=sr_1_10?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1301772755&sr=1-10
